Waste Inventory Specialists lead, support and provide waste inventory expertise on a diverse range of technical and non-technical issues in support of led by the Enterprise Inventory Office.

The role will primarily focus on the preparation, analysis and reporting of inventory data to support site permits and regulatory requirements, as well as those of the NDA and other external stakeholders.  The role has particular emphasis on delivering technical reports and studies in support of the safety cases.

Job Responsibilities
  • Working as part of a small team responsible for the successful delivery of all waste inventory related tasks and activities across the Enterprise Inventory Office.
  • Supporting delivery of the UK Radioactive Waste Inventory (UKRWI) in line with the appropriate timescales and quality requirements.
  • Delivery of a diverse range of technical work including, but not limited to, technical reports and studies, guidance documents, data analysis, briefing notes and presentations.
  • Providing direct support to the Waste Inventory Manager in the delivery of discrete inventory tasks to support delivery of the Environmental Safety Case (ESC) Programme, including provision of inventory data for a range of defined site scenarios.
  • Providing direct inventory support to the ESC team and appointed contractors for delivery of key work projects and programmes, such as support of Annual Reviews and Periodic Reviews, Environmental Permit requirements (Schedule 3) and Capacity Management.
  • Providing support to the production of Waste Inventory Data Query Outputs in support of NWS business requirements, and those of the NDA and other key stakeholders.
  • Supporting tasks and activities associated with the Waste Forecasting (WFO) process.
  • Supporting matrix working ensuring the quality and correctness of data managed by the Enterprise Inventory Office.
  • Supporting the development of tools and software in support of core Enterprise Inventory Office tasks and activities, including waste tracking systems, management system documentation.
  • Supporting changes in waste inventory practices and techniques across the industry through collaborative working with Site License Companies, regulators and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Supporting site-based audits and/or desktop reviews of customers waste inventory arrangements, such as SMART inventory reviews.
  • Participate in cross-industry groups, such as the NDA National Inventory Forum and associated sub-groups tasked with delivery of inventory improvement initiatives.
  • Own your personal development to develop competencies across the Enterprise Inventory Office scope and broaden your knowledge of both NDA and Non-NDA Group sites and operations.
  • As a representative for NWS Technical Directorate, the role holder must demonstrate professionalism, impartiality and integrity in all aspects of the role.

Qualifications Needed

  • University degree in scientific discipline or relevant demonstrable experience
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills for applying to large datasets to enable identification of key points and production of concise summaries
  • Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail
  • Experienced user of MS Office suite, Word, Excel, Outlook
