Thousands of jobs to be created as government announces multi-billion-pound investment to build Sizewell C

The Chancellor is set to confirm the funding at the GMB Congress later today ahead of the government’s Spending Review, as the Energy Secretary vows a ‘golden age’ of nuclear to boost the UK’s energy security.

The government’s investment will go towards creating 10,000 jobs, including 1,500 apprenticeships, and support thousands more jobs across the UK.

Norsk Nukleær Dekommisjonering (NND) has selected Amentum (NYSE: AMTM), and its joint venture partner Multiconsult Norge AS to deliver safety case management and training for Norway’s nuclear clean-up program.

New council Leader, Cllr Sean Matthews, has announced the move which has dealt the deathblow for plans to site a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) in Lincolnshire.

Plans that earmarked Theddlethorpe on the coast as a possible site for underground nuclear waste storage were first raised four years ago.

New picture show Hinkley Point C’s progress as teams at the new nuclear power station get ready to lift the domed roof onto the second reactor building this summer.

The image show that construction of Unit 1’s buildings is almost complete, as the installation of equipment accelerates inside. Meanwhile the second unit, which was stopped during the pandemic, is catching up with its 245-tonne dome due to be lifted over the summer.  This will allow it to move into its fit-out phase.

Holtec Britain, an innovative leader in Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), and a finalist in Great British Nuclear’s SMR competition, has today selected GatewayEast, next to Doncaster-Sheffield Airport, as the preferred location for its planned new UK factory.

The company is now entering detailed negotiations with the developer, Peel Land. The landmark decision has been widely welcomed by Doncaster Mayor Ros Jones, South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard, local Labour MP Lee Pitcher, and industry leads.

Green light for construction phase as Sizewell C triggers Development Consent Order

The project was granted permission to build in July 2022, and while preparatory works subsequently began, many obligations needed to be satisfied before construction could commence under its DCO.

Those obligations, set out in a Deed of Obligation document signed with East Suffolk Council and Suffolk County Council, and which included activity ranging from key road surveys to the establishment of Governance Groups, are all now satisfied and the formal construction phase of the project can begin.

Constellation (Nasdaq: CEG) and Meta have signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the output of the Clinton Clean Energy Center to support Meta’s clean energy goals and operations in the region with 1,121 megawatts of emissions-free nuclear energy. Beginning in June of 2027, the agreement supports the relicensing and continued operations of Constellation’s high-performing Clinton nuclear facility for another two decades after the state’s ratepayer funded zero emission credit (ZEC) program expires.
