New plan to kickstart onshore wind revolution

Onshore wind strategy published as part of mission to become a clean energy superpower.
The amount of clean, homegrown energy from onshore wind is set to accelerate over the second half of the decade as the government launches the first ever onshore wind strategy.

Thousands of new jobs for British people in onshore wind, such as engineering, construction, and operations maintenance, could be created by 2030 to build the onshore wind needed to deliver clean power for families and businesses.

Sizewell C is forming an alliance with three leading construction companies who will deliver the main civil works at the new power station in Suffolk.

A Programme Alliance Agreement has been signed between Sizewell C, Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke and Bouygues Travaux Publics who together form the Civil Works Alliance.

The CWA brings the companies together with Sizewell C into a single delivery organisation which will be responsible for extensive areas of the project, including:

Sizewell C is forming an alliance with three leading construction companies who will deliver the main civil works at the new power station in Suffolk.

A Programme Alliance Agreement has been signed between Sizewell C, Laing O’Rourke Balfour Beatty, and Bouygues Travaux Publics who together form the Civil Works Alliance.

The CWA brings the construction companies together with Sizewell C into a single delivery organisation. It will employ between 3,000-4,000 workers over the 8-year civils programme.

The Alliance will deliver extensive areas of the project, including:

Aker Solutions awarded contract for BalWin2 offshore wind project

Aker Solutions has signed a significant[1] contract with Dragados Offshore to deliver the steel substructure for the 2GW HVDC converter station for the BalWin2 offshore wind grid connection system in Germany, developed by Amprion Offshore GmbH.

Reference is made to the stock exchange release published on February 10, 2025. With this contract award, Dragados has exercised the option for the second HVDC converter station for the BalWin development in Germany.

Balfour Beatty VINCI completes slide of the ‘East Deck’ of HS2’s M6 South Viaduct

Balfour Beatty VINCI have successfully slid the first part of a major 320-metre-long viaduct into position that will carry high speed trains across the M6 near Birmingham Airport.

The first stage of the project – delivered this weekend – saw the ‘East Deck’ of the M6 South viaduct slid 119m out over a slip road adjacent to the motorway.

To reduce disruption for motorists, the viaduct deck is being assembled to one side and slid across the motorway over three weekends, with each part pushed out before later sections are added behind them.
