Mechanical Engineers are responsible for delivering and reviewing the Mechanical Engineering work.
Job Responsibilities
- Lifting Appliance Engineer – discharging statutory duties under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment
- Regulations (LOLER) as regards maintenance, examination and introduction into service of lifting equipment
- System Engineer for all lifting equipment and accessories
- Pressure Systems Engineer – discharging statutory duties under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR); ensuring statutory inspections are conducted by a competent person and maintaining engineering oversight of pressure systems
- Appointed Crane Engineer – whose duties include reviewing crane proposals produced by contractors to ensure that all lifts are planned by the Contractor and approved before work starts; and for high hazard and impacts crane/lifting operations, setting up and managing (with the Head of Engineering as the chair) Crane Review Panels
- Support the mechanical responsible engineer in reviewing designs, including drawings and calculations
- Produce internal (low complexity) designs and/or specifications for plant operations support,
infrastructure renewals, plant modifications or for configuration management purposes, and carry out design reviews on these designs - Review Plant Modification Proposals (PMPs) to understand any impacts from the change/modification on the design intent, design basis and configuration baseline of the facility, asset or system (including impact on drawings and design basis documentation).
- Attend Nuclear Safety Case Review meetings, e.g. HAZOP, review of normal operations, fault
identification meetings, and provide follow up information as necessary - Support short- and long-term periodic review meetings and requests for information
- Carry out engineering substantiation in line with the relevant engineering and safety case processes to confirm equipment, structures, systems and components deliver the function claimed
- Produce through to approval and committee endorsement engineering substantiation reports and check sheets
- Produce and manage Engineering Schedules in association with the Nuclear Safety Case Managers
- Provide general engineering advice to the Nuclear Safety Case Team
- Provide support to commissioning and infrastructure renewals (replacement) tasks
- Provide support to the Packaging Design team in production and checking of calculations and reports, and general technical advice
Experience Required
- Engineering graduate (minimum 2:2) from an accredited institution in a relevant mechanical discipline, or equivalent appropriate professional qualification
- Relevant experience serving in an engineering design capacity with responsibility for the production, checking and approval of design and engineering deliverables including drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports.
- Broad knowledge of industry consensus standards, processes, procedures and methods relevant to the mechanical areas with a full understanding of underlying principles.
- Proven experience in the production of high-quality technical reports, specifications and engineering documentation
- Accredited by an appropriate professional institution (i.e. Incorporated / Chartered Engineer) or capable of achieving Chartership and working toward that objective.
- Proven ability to manage own workload against multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Can demonstrate having the ability to engage with and impact on others and work effectively as part of a wider team.
- Ability to ensure minimum standards and fundamental process requirements are maintained when under pressure to deliver and ability to challenge others at all levels of the organisation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Experience in general project management areas, work planning and schedule/programme management.
- Previous knowledge and experience of lifting appliances, ventilation and mechanical system engineering.
