The role of a Health and Safety Area Lead is to fully support the H&S Lead in ensuring the Health and Safety standards of the project are consistently met. Champion all activities undertaken and play a key role in the site integrated H&S team.

Job Responsibilities
  • The role holder will support construction deliverables by assisting in maintenance of the HSE management system and technical library, finding, analysing and providing information as requested. They will engage with Construction teams throughout the planning and delivery of the scope of works ensuring lessons learnt are actioned to provide the highest safety performance
  • you will be responsible for deliverables of the H&S Advisor team, supervising and managing the field HSE team in all duties with full regard to all policies and procedures
  • you will monitor the working practices of employees and contractors regarding health and safety, environment and welfare, observe and record ‘At Risk’ & ‘Reduce Risk’ behaviours.  In line with our key values this position holder will demonstrates Humility through sharing success as a team; demonstrates Positivity through always striving for solutions; demonstrates Respect through valuing other points of view; demonstrates Clarity through sharing information simply and concisely and demonstrates Solidarity through adopting a “One Team” approach
  • The H&S Area Lead will carry out HSE inspections across the site and undertake additional tasks as are reasonably commensurate with the level of the post. They will provide competent specialist advice on identified topics, specifically COSHH. Conduct audits of site activities and sub-contractor operations and record the findings of audit reports and inspections in line with the HSSE Management system requirements.


Experience Required

  • Construction background with a minimum 5 years’ experience.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in order to explain HSE procedures and expectations to a range of people
  • Working knowledge of the Health and Safety Regulations
  • Experience of interactions with Regulators, presenting and hosting Site visits.
  • Suitable site experience in a similar role, preferably in the construction or nuclear industry  
  • Willing to undertake Level 3 Award in Education & Training / PTLLS or equivalent if required
  • Basic understanding of Nuclear Site Licence Conditions
  • An investigative mind and a keen eye for detail 
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Preferably Chartered IOSH Member or Working towards Chartership
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
