First Electrical System Completes at Hinkley Point C
MEH is excited to announce the completion of the first electrical system at Hinkley Point C. This system has now been handed over to the commissioning team, bringing us one step closer in achieving the readiness of the first auxiliary transformer.
Over the past few months, electrical specialists from the MEH Alliance have been hard at work installing the necessary electrical equipment for the low voltage power distribution in the first electrical building. The system, comprising a variety of switchboards and transformers totalling 38 pieces of equipment, is crucial for the operation of the power station. The low voltage power distribution system will carry electrical energy from the main transformer to Unit 1’s turbine hall, pump house, and other ancillary buildings.
“We’ve gained invaluable insights during the installation, particularly with switchboard terminations. Even though we are still in the construction phase, commissioning this system means a small area of the power station will have live temporary power until the system is fully commissioned. It’s truly remarkable to witness the transformation of Hinkley Point C as we shift from the civil phase to the mechanical, electrical, and air ventilation fit-out phase.” said Romain Perez, Project Manager.
