Moderna’s Innovation and Technology Centre

Moderna’s Innovation and Technology Centre at Harwell Campus Completed

The construction of Moderna’s Innovation and Technology Centre (MITC) at Harwell Campus has been completed. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as Moderna’s base for research, development, and manufacturing. The project is part of a 10-year partnership with the UK Government, managed by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).

The centre aims to produce British-made COVID-19 vaccines and explore the potential of Moderna’s mRNA platform to transform UK healthcare.

Glencar Construction (who are based at The Harwell Innovation Centre) played a significant role in this project. They were awarded the contract to construct the MITC. Glencar’s involvement highlights their expertise in delivering complex life sciences and pharmaceutical projects.

The facility will also feature a clinical biomarker laboratory, a prefabricated modular laboratory constructed in Northumberland and installed on the campus.

The MITC is expected to create hundreds of jobs across Oxfordshire and the UK, cementing Harwell Campus as a national health tech hub. The centre will harness mRNA science to develop and deliver innovative vaccines to the UK public, addressing threats from respiratory viruses.

It’s an exciting development for the UK’s life sciences sector!
